Dealing with microraptors

Recommended Posts

These things are getting annoying so I'm looking for a solution.

Aside from riding something big enough to avoid aggro from them, what's the best way to deal with wild microraptors?

Right now I've been mass breeding monkes big and small, so my best idea so far is to go out on a squad of gigantopithicus each with a 1000% damage mesopithicus on their shoulders, but that will probably only work after they've already hit me.

Anyone have a good solution?

ASA or ASE? There are some methods but not very convenient in terms of mobility or safety. For example you can walk around with a Paracer with a platform and 4 walls. You would be safe from them even inside the pouch of a Procoptodon. Or walking on foot, as mentioned by UDG will not stun you. Obviously a bird is a good solution. The good Stegosaurus will also protect you from them, or a Thery, but from what you wrote it seems to me that changing your mount is not your interest...

Edit: Now that I think about it, it seems to me that if you're on the Paracer you don't need the walls..

Correct, on my rex, paracer, or diplodocus they won't aggro. Same with anything that size, but I'd like to be able to use the other 80% of tames.

Again looking at the wiki, seagulls might be the answer. When set to hunt and aggressive, they supposedly only target small creatures which I assume includes the microraptor.

A thing to know about wild creatures in general is that  "all land" based creatures arent able to perform attacks while submerged. So excluding animals like Sarco, Baryonix etc, if hostile animals are submerged (swimming) they will not attack.

So this means that if a microraptor has to get into water to get to you, it will probably be suberged and unable to initiate its stun attack...

Edit:

I never really bother them, they are too weak to cause any real problems other than not being able to focus on bigger threats.
But I tend to get them to miss their stun attack if you dismount at the exact right time, its like 50-50 and if there are multiple Microraptors its hard to dodge them all. I always dodge Hyenadons by going prone. They would just jump over you...
Maybe going prone will make them miss also, never tried, but maybe worth a try.
Though its also not the best idea while fighting an Alpha Rex, to dismount, go prone to dodge the flock of Microraptors attacks...

So my situation is that with where my bases and the resources I go after are located, being in and around the redwoods, I can't take land routes without using my rex or the like without having to fight one every 30 seconds.

It's not like an alpha where I can just see it, kill it, and be done with it. I get dismounted out of nowhere and stunned for 10 seconds while my tames keep failing to catch it because it's orbiting me at mach 6. Once I'm able I'll try to upload an example clip of what I'm dealing with.

Hiding doesn't really solve anything for me. Best case scenario I want to avoid them altogether while keeping my normal routes, but failing that I want something that can kill them quickly, like when a thyla grabs me and it dies in 3 seconds.

- Smaller creatures can get their agro faster. Doesnt mean you can still get agro also. But a flock of dimos or following raptors can take make them focus on other tames so you dont get the stun attack.
- Dinos with big AOE can make short work of these low HP creatures. Gigas are top for this, also Mammoths, Spinos and Megaloceros :) Male Megaloceros also has its antlers which could potentially block their attacks.
- Know their spawns. Either block their spawns, by building, walk a route around them, or send/keep a dino to the spots before you go there to agressivily get rid of them before you have to deal with them yourself.
- Swing through the trees like Tarzan, while whistling your pets to follow you around and go where you want them to :)
- Use a flyer and let ground animals follow you.

Best solution in my opinion, to most mainland threats anyway: Giga.

Edit: I dont think while riding a Rex you agro microraptors? Just ignore them completely if possible...

Not really, they have been the bane of existence since forever. If I see them doing the circle of death, I just hop right off my tame and prepare for a fight. A really nice high level double barrel or sword is usually best.

The answer depends a lot on whether your base is near a microraptor spawn point or whether you only run into them when you go exploring, and whether you're on a fast mount.

1) Escort animals. Whether you're flying or on the ground, if you have a couple of good combat animals following you on Neutral, they can handle threats for you. That could be the microraptor itself or it could be any other creatures that attack you when you get stunned. The more often you run into microraptors the more you should consider escort animals.

2) If you're traveling on fast mounts then you need fast escort animals that can keep up with you. It gets really tedious to constantly stop and wait for your escorts to catch up. So if you're flying on a ptera, for example, you want flyers that are fast enough to keep up as you speed-boost all over the map. But if you're flying on an argy or riding a slower ground mount or are ok with stopping to let the flock catch up with you, you might be happy with having a small flock of 1-5 small flyers following you (dimorphodons, seagulls, your own microraptors, vultures, you get the idea). Vultures, in particular, do tons of damage if something big comes after you. Vultures do about as much damage as a rex, so you can imagine what 5 of them can do to a target (or at least this was true in ASE, I'm not certain if it's still true in ASA).

I've been a fan of escort flocks for a long time - they are agile, they are hard for wild creatures to kill if you have enough of them (1 is vulnerable but a flock of 5-10 is like having your own personal air force) and they are easy to control if you use tame groups and whistle commands.

Yep circle of death, what I was talking about earlier. My main base right now is in the redwoods which is full of them. My old base which I'm still using as a farm and breeding area for some tames is at the green obelisk, where if I go to the islet between it and the redwoods, they're still not uncommon.

I also live on the edge of the redwoods on the border with the swamp, both when I was in ASE and now in ASA, I'm so used to them that I don't even notice them anymore, it's true that for now in ASA the animals still have movement problems and therefore the fast ones like Microraptor seem like uncatchable arrows but my Pike and my reliable shoulder Dimorphodon are a good combination, in this regard I agree with a flock of some Dimorphodons that follow you during the harvest (in the Sequoias you can easily find them to tame some dedicated to this task) and in ASA right now the birds have greater speed when following you compared to ASE, but you could fight the beast with the same beast... catch and have some of them follow you, they have the pack pack bonus and play the equal to the speed. Although your idea of using hunting gulls is interesting and I'm curious to know if it works for you.

All this aside, have you already tried planting Plant-X (or automatic turrets) in strategic points of your main harvest path?

I patrol the whole redwoods for more gigantopithicus to bring into the gene pool, so that's a few too many.

Might be worth trying just on the short path between the two bases though.

I like the dimorphodon idea, last night I tamed a breeding pair of seagulls to attempt something similar and see if they grab microraptors while in hunt mode like they do dodos and lystrosaurs.
